Special AE Activities
CAP Solar Eclipse Mission
On October 14, 2023, and April 8, 2024 eclipses will cross North America. To make the most of this pair of unique astronomic events, the Rocky Mountain Region has partnered with NASA’s GLOBE Observer program to give Civil Air Patrol members the opportunity to become solar eclipse citizen scientists.
Squadrons across North America are invited to create teams of 5 to 10 members to track the effects of the solar eclipse on cloud cover, air temperature, and wind speed/direction. CAP citizen science teams will also help create the first continent scale data set that measures the effects of solar eclipses on VHF radio operations.
